In the Age of Anxiety

My recent series of paintings entitled In the Age of Anxiety reflect the impact of current world events on our fragile psyches. The houses provide a means of implying figurative presence, but propose a broader, less tangible interpretation. This central form, which I have used for years, has internal and external opportunities for other images to interact and react. As my work has progressed, I find my images gravitating towards the abstract, and soon my houses may no longer be needed at all. My paintings suggest a world where quiet components may passively (or belligerently) coexist within the realities of today’s fearful world.

These works were created through an intuitive process combined with careful consideration. The visuals materialized one image at a time, utilizing collage-like additions and subtractions until the image coalesced. My paintings offer subtleties of lingering darkness combined with pure optimism.

I am a pack rat for visual images that I collect as source material. Newly discovered forms progress to diverging narratives. Digital imagery is now finding its way into the mix, and will ultimately -- hopefully dramatically, and unpredictably – impact my future work.
